Temaki Zushi Hand Roll Party
Temaki zushi is made by hand, without using a bamboo mat. Join Sonoko Sakai on Saturday, February 6th at 11:00AM for a 90 minute online workshop on making and eating home-style temaki zushi.
A number of ingredients are recommended to fill your temaki zushi, but the final selection will depend on what is available at your local market. You can also purchase a standard shelf-stable kit from Sonoka Sakai. Or you can buy a Riviera Seafood Club kit that offers a special sashimi-grade raw fish selection for purchase and delivery straight to your home.
ON THE MENU –
Classic Seasoned Sushi Rice – Learn how to turn freshly steamed rice into the classic sweet, salty, tangy sushi rice traditionally used in temaki zushi.
Bonito Kombu Dashi – The foundation of Japanese cuisine. We will steep a combination of kombu seaweed and dried shaved fish into hot water to create an umami rich broth or ‘dashi’. This dashi will be used to season our tamago omelette, but we will also discuss other creative ways to incorporate dashi into your culinary repertoire
Dashimaki Tamago – Classic japanese egg omelet. Eggs get blended with homemade bonito dashi and then cooked in layers, gradually rolled up and formed into a log. This delicious rolled omelette then gets sliced up and served as an optional filling in our hand rolls.
Temaki Zushi Hand Rolls – We’ll slice up a selection of sashimi grade fish and fresh vegetables and sit around the virtual table together to build our hand rolls, paired with fresh wasabi, shoyu, crisp nori, and warm seasoned rice.
