This Week in LA: Folks to Support While You Stay Home.

Instead of the hiatus I mentioned in my last post

With all local events cancelled because of COVID-19, this week’s newsletter features things to do from home that happen to support local creators and small businesses. We’re all in this together, right?

Have suggestions for Japan-related “safer at home” activities, let me know @soypaperla on Twitter and Instagram!

Sylvia Wakana launched a new blog featuring quick and easy Japanese recipes. I can’t wait to make the Tamago Sando. Check out the site at and be sure to follow her on Instagram for more on food, local restaurants, and Japanese culture.

Sonoko Sakai’s cooking workshops may be cancelled this month but you can order her Curry Brick Kit to make at home! Japanese curry is comforting and nourishing in good times and challenging times. You can also purchase her new book, “Japanese Home Cooking: Simple Meals, Authentic Flavors,” on Amazon.

Two of my favorite L.A. stores, Japan LA and Giant Robot, have been able to keep their online stores open! Take a browse. I’m sure you’ll find something to brighten your day!

Rambalac isn’t a local creator. He’s a Youtuber that roams the streets of Japan. I find his quiet strolls relaxing. I’ve been turning them on in the background to help me unwind. Find his channel here.

Still reading? If, after helping the folks above, you’re in a position to throw a little my way, consider becoming a member on Patreon. Getting to around 100 members would cover the cost of web hosting and my newsletter service. Click here to find out more.

Sharing Soy Paper with friends and followers is an equally great way to lend a hand!
